Chiefly from Hesleden in Halton Gill (WR Yorks), though Monk Hesleden (Durham), Haselden (Sussex), Haslingden (Lancs), and Hazledon Farm (Wilts, recorded as Heseldene in about 1130) are alternative possibilities.
The Sussex place-name derives from Old English hæsel ‘hazel’ + denn ‘pasture’. The Lancs place-name derives from Old English *hæslen ‘growing with hazels’ + denu ‘valley’.
The other place-names derive from Old English hæsel + denu.
There has been some confusion with Hazelton.
