Hastler Family History
Hastler Surname Meaning
Probably for the officer of a great kitchen who superintended the roasting of meat from Anglo-Norman French hasteler, a derivative of Old French hastele, itself a diminutive of haste ‘a spit’.
Late Middle English examples could alternatively have denoted the more lowly kitchen servant, the turnspit, though this is less likely to have given rise to an inherited surname.
Compare Haster.
