Hashi Family History
Hashi Surname Meaning
Somali: from a Somali Muslim personal name of unexplained etymology. It is also found in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Djibouti. — Note: Since Somalis traditionally do not have hereditary surnames, this name was in most cases registered as such only after immigration of its bearers to the US.
Japanese: written 橋 ‘bridge’, originally from Ishikawa and Shiga prefectures in central Japan, now also found in Hokkaidō. Fairly rare are 箸 ‘chopsticks’, 端 ‘edge’, and a few versions written phonetically such as 波紫 ‘waves’ and ‘violet’, 吐師 ‘spew’ and ‘teacher’, and 羽紫 ‘wings’ and ‘violet’.
Some occurrences in America may be the result of shortening longer names.
