Albanian: ethnic name or nickname from the archaic/informal term gogë (definite form goga) ‘Vlach Aromanian foreigner’ (see Vlachos) figuratively also ‘boorish crude’.

Romanian and Albanian: from a vernacular short form of the personal name Romanian Gheorghe Albanian Jorgo (see George). In some cases possibly also an American shortened (or Greek feminine) form of Greek Gogas: of Albanian origin (see 3 above).
