English and French: variant of Fleury and in North America (also) an altered form of this. French: from a medieval vernacular form of the Latin personal name Florius a derivative of Florus which is from florus ‘blooming flowering’.

South German (in Austria mainly Flöry): from a short form of the personal name Florian. In part this is a Germanized form of French Fleury (compare 1 above).
