Probably from Falshaw Meadow in Lawkland (WR Yorks) which is recorded as Fauldshawe in 138. The place-name derives from Old English fald ‘fold animal enclosure’ + sceaga ‘copse small wood’.

Perhaps also from a lost place called Falshey in Buckden (WR Yorks) which is recorded thus in 1580–97. The place-name probably derives from Old English ge-fall ‘clearing’ + sceaga ‘copse’.
