Egerton in Kent is from the Old English personal name Ecgheard + Old English tūn ‘estate, farmstead’ (see Eckert), but Egerton in Cheshire is more likely to derive from the Old English personal name Ecghere (in which the second element is Old English here ‘army’) + Old English tūn.
