Spanish and Italian: nickname for a tough or unyielding man from duro ‘hard tough’ (from Latin durus). The word had both the approving sense ‘steadfast enduring’ and the less favorable sense ‘stubborn obstinate cruel’.
Albanian: from a short form of the Muslim personal names Abdurrahman and Abdurrahim.
English (Derbyshire): perhaps a variant of Durose, itself a variant of Dewhurst with loss of the final consonant.
