Cyrus Surname Meaning

German Polish Czech and West Indian (Trinidad and Tobago Grenada): from the Latin personal name Cyrus derived from the Greek form Kyros of the name of several kings of Persia. The origin of the name is not known but in the early Christian period it was associated with Greek kyrios ‘lord’ (see Cyriac) and was borne by various Christian saints including an Egyptian martyr and a bishop of Carthage.

Polish: derivative of Middle High German zier ziere ‘precious wonderful beautiful’. Americanized form of Greek Kyros from the personal name Kyros (see 1 above).

English: possibly an altered form of Syers the present form of the name being influenced by that of the several kings of Persia in its most familiar Latin form (see 1 above).
