Americanized form of South German Goder: topographic name for someone living by a narrow pass or ravine from Middle High German goder ‘throat gullet’.
Possibly also an Americanized form of Slovenian Koder.
Spanish: unexplained found in Extremadura (Badajoz) and southwestern Andalusia.
