Clilverd Surname Meaning

Apparently a variant of Kilvert with intrusive -l-. But the existence of a place in Westbury (Wilts) where the name arises called Chalford which has no known early spellings suggests an alternative.

It is perhaps ultimately linked with Chalfield in not far distant Atworth. None of this is certain.

The name has obviously also been confused with Clifford.
