Catmull Family History

Catmull Surname Meaning

English (Essex): variant of Cattermole perhaps of Flemish origin a habitational name from Quatre-Moulins (Hainault Belgium) which is derived from Old French quatre moles ‘four mills’.

Early spellings with -k- instead of -t- such as Cakyrmoll (1478) and Cackamoule (1668) would be a normal English colloquial interchange of /t/ and /k/ but could point to a different but unknown etymology.
