English (northwestern): from the Middle English female personal name Casse (probably a pet form of Cassandra; see Cass) + son hence ‘son of Casse’. Alternatively a variant of Catson ‘son of Cat(t)e’ from a pet form of the Middle English female personal name Catelin (see Catt 2 and Catlin) + son.

Irish (Mayo and Leitrim): variant of Cashin.
