Scottish (Angus and Perthshire) and English: variant of Bewick. German: probably a variant of Buck 3 and hence a cognate of the Dutch name Buik (see Buyck compare 3 below).

Dutch: variant archaic or Americanized of Buijk or Buik (see Buyck). Americanized form of Serbian and Croatian Bujić patronymic from a short form of an old personal name such as Bujimir based on bujati ‘to become exuberant’ or of Croatian Buić which is probably of the same origin.
