Bricker Family History
Bricker Surname Meaning
Americanized form of German Brücker (see Brucker) or Brügger (see Bruegger). Americanized form of German Brücher (see Brucher). English: habitational name from Brickworth in Whiteparish, Wiltshire, recorded as Bricore and Brikore in 1268.
The placename consists of an uncertain first element + Old English ōra ‘slope, ridge’. English: perhaps also an occupational name from an unrecorded Middle English briker ‘brick-maker’, a derivative of Old French brike ‘building block made from baked clay’.
However, the Oxford English Dictionary does not record the word brick in English before the 15th century and suggests that it was a borrowing from Middle Dutch.
