English (Kent): habitational name from Byng in Suffolk or a topographic name for someone who lived in a hollow (metaphorical use of Middle English bing ‘coffer bin’). Alternatively, it may be from the Middle English word bing ‘coffer bin’ (from Old Norse bingr ‘bed, bolster, heap, stook of corn’). This word is the source of the placename.

Jewish (western Ashkenazic) and Danish: habitational name from Bing, a shortened form of Bingen. Danish: metonymic occupational name from bing ‘storage bin for grain’ for someone who either made or used such containers.

Chinese: Mandarin form of the surname 邴: (i) from Bing (邴), the name of a fief granted to Bing Yu (邴豫), an official in the state of Jin during the Spring and Autumn period (770–476 BC). (ii) from Bing (邴), the name of a fief (located in present-day Shandong province) granted to an official in the state of Qi during the Spring and Autumn period (770–476 BC).

Chinese: Mandarin form of the surname 兵 of unexplained etymology. It is said to be a surname of the aboriginal inhabitants of Taiwan.

Chinese: possibly from a Cantonese form of the Chinese names 炳 (meaning ‘bright’) or 冰 (meaning ‘ice’), which were monosyllabic personal names or part of disyllabic personal names of some early Chinese immigrants in the US.
