Almas Family History
Almas Surname Meaning
Norwegian (Almås): habitational name from any of several farms so named, a compound of alm ‘elm’ + ås ‘hill ridge’.
Hungarian (Almás): from alma ‘apple’, hence an occupational name for a producer or seller of apples and probably also a topographic name for someone who lived by an apple orchard. This surname is very rare in Hungary; as an American name, it may also be a shortened form of the related surnames Almási and Almásy (see Almasy).
Portuguese: from the plural of alma ‘soul’.
Muslim (mainly Pakistan): from a personal name based on Persian almās ‘diamond’.
