Wymark Family History
Wymark Surname Meaning
From the Old Breton personal name Wiuhomarch (modern Guyonvarc'h), gallicized as Old French Wimarc and brought to England with the Norman Conquest. The name is composed of Old Breton uuiu ‘worthy of’ + the prefix ho- ‘successfully’ + march ‘horse’.
It was used for women as well as men. See also Wymer (2) with which this name may have been confused in Anglo-Norman England.
