Worledge Family History
Worledge Surname Meaning
From Middle English worliche, an occasional variant of worthli meaning ‘worthy, noble, distinguished’ (Old English weorþlīc).
It is a variant of Wooldridge in which the Middle English personal name Wolrich or Wolrik has been metathesized to Worlich.
Perhaps it originates from Worlick (in Ramsey, Hunts), which is recorded as Wiluuerihc in 1242 and Wyrlewyk in 1287.
However, the following bearers may belong at (1). The etymology of the place-name is uncertain.
