Vaisanen Family History
Vaisanen Surname Meaning
Finnish (Väisänen): from väisä ‘road sign placed on the ice’ or väisäkkä ‘wily person’ + the surname suffix -nen. Recorded since the 16th century in Savonia in eastern Finland, it spread early to northern Karelia, Kainuu, and northern Ostrobothnia.
This standard Finnish variant is rare in the US, where the surname is mostly spelled Waisanen.
