Titheridge Family History
Titheridge Surname Meaning
The Hants name is presumably from Totteridge in Milton Lilborne (Wilts), which is recorded as Tetherigg(e) from 1199 onwards, Toteryg in 1315, and Tyterigge in 1545.
The place-name may derive from Old English *tȳte (related to Old English *tōt ‘a look-out’) perhaps with the sense ‘projecting piece of land’ + hrycg ‘ridge’.
Elsewhere, especially in the Midlands, it is alternatively a variant of Detheridge.
