French (mainly Pas-de-Calais): variant of Flemish Sys, itself a variant of Syx and Six. This surname is also found in Germany (see also 7 below).
German: from a short form of an ancient Germanic personal name containing the element sigi ‘victory’. The name is at least in part of cognate French and ultimately Flemish origin (see 6 above).
