Sowe Family History
Sowe Surname Meaning
West African (from Senegal, Guinea, Mali, and Mauritania): from the name of the Sow (originally So) clan of the Fulani and Tukulor peoples, a name of unknown origin and meaning. Bearers of this surname are mostly Muslims.
From Walsgrave on Sowe (Warwicks), recorded as Sowe in 1293 and generally known as Sow until the 19th century. The place takes its name from the river Sowe itself of uncertain etymology.
It is perhaps derived from a British word that includes the root seu-, meaning ‘to flow, liquid,’ which also relates to the Old English sēaw, meaning ‘juice.’
