Siddalls Family History
Siddalls Surname Meaning
from The Siddalls in Sutton in Ashfield (Notts) which is recorded as Sydehalgh in 1316 and Syddalles in 1530 or from Sidneys Farm in Stretton (Derbys) which is recorded as Sydenhale in the 13th century or possibly from The Sidnalls in Tardebigge (Worcs) which is recorded as Sidenhale in about 1245.
The place-names probably all derive from Old English sīd ‘large spacious long’ (dative sīdan) + halh ‘nook corner of land’. The final -s was added to the place-names or the surnames in post-medieval times.
Seedhouse is probably an altered form of Sidalls by folk etymology. Compare the Yorks and Lancs name Siddall.
