Shakerley Surname Meaning

From Shakerley in Leigh (Lancs) which is recorded as Shakerlee in about 1210, Shackerley in Leyland (Lancs) or perhaps from Shackerley in Donnington (Shrops), though no medieval evidence for the Shrops place-name has been found.

The Lancs place-names probably derive from Old English scēacere ‘robber’ + lēah ‘wood woodland clearing’.
