No evidence has been found of Plume in Staffs, where the earliest examples of Proom occur, but compare Joseph Ploom 1796 in IGI (Birmingham, Warwicks).

Alternatively, Proom might be a variant of Plumb with a lengthened vowel, though this name is also rare and late in Staffs.
