A variant of Pownall features an intrusive [d]. This can be compared to the records of Nathanaell Pownall from 1582 and Philemon Poundall from 1586 found in IGI (Cranbrook, Kent). Further examples include Edward Pownall from 1620 and Elizabeth Poundall from 1790, also in IGI (Duffield, Derbys).

Additionally, the name may have been derived from or altered to Pounder, involving the interchange of [l] and [r]. For instance, Robert Pounder appeared in 1634, and Samuel Pounder showed up in records from 1790, alongside Elizabeth Poundall from the same year, all within IGI (Duffield, Derbys).

More documentation includes Thos. Poundall from 1773 and Benjamin Pounder from 1792, as found in IGI (Wirksworth, Derbys). Furthermore, Benjamin Poundell was noted in 1807 and Samuel Pounder in 1816, again in IGI (Crich, Derbys).
