Palethorpe Surname Meaning

From Perlethorpe (Notts), which is recorded as Torp in 1086, Peuereltorp in 1194, and Palethorpe al. Peverillthorp in 1650. The place-name derives from Old English or Old Scandinavian þorp ‘secondary settlement, outlying farm’.

It appears that the surname Peverall was prefixed to the place-name, but it is not clear why.
