From Osmaston or Osmaston by Derby (both Derbys) both of which are recorded as Osmundestune in 1086 and Osmaston in the 16th century. The place-names derive from the Old English personal name Ōsmund + Old English tūn ‘farmstead settlement’.

Alternatively, perhaps from a lost place in Norfolk which is recorded as Osmundeston in 1374 in Patent Rolls. The place-name appears to have the same etymology as the Derbys place-names mentioned in (i).
