Norburn Surname Meaning

From an unidentified place-name presumably in south Yorks or perhaps in Derbys. Norbury (Derbys) is a possibility (see Norbury) with the not uncommon substitution of -burn for -bury. Place-Names of Derbys p. 591 cites a derived surname from this place dated 1286.

From Northbourne (Kent) which is recorded as Norborne in 1086 and Northburne in 1240. The place-name derives from Old English norð ‘northern north’ + burna ‘spring stream’.
