All three place-names denoted a woodland clearing (Old English lēah) possibly associated with a man named with Old English *Hlūda, *Hlȳda, or *Lut(t)a.

Lutley (Staffs) is about 12 miles from Milson (Shrops), where the 1327 bearer was resident.
