Logue Family History

Logue Surname Meaning

Irish: shortened Anglicized form of Gaelic Ó Maol Mhaodhóg Ó Maolaodhóg ‘descendant of the servant (devotee) of Saint Maodhóg (Mogue)’. Chiefly found in northern Ireland. Compare Molloy.

From Ó Laoghóg ‘descendant of Laoghóg’ a diminutive of laogh ‘calf’. This possibly arose as a re-interpretation in Irish of the shortened form of Ó Maolaodhóg.

In Galway Leech has been adopted as equivalent.
