Lachman Surname Meaning

Altered form of German Lachmann. This form of the surname is also found in Czechia and Poland. Jewish (Ashkenazic): from the Yiddish personal name Lakhman, a variant of Nachman ‘consoler’.

Indian: from an Anglicized form of the personal name Lakshman from Sanskrit lakṣmaṇa ‘one who has auspicious marks’ (see Lakshmanan). This surname is found mainly in South Africa, Suriname, and Guyana.

It is apparently not used in India. Compare Latchman.
