From Islip (Northants) which is recorded as Islep in 1086. The place may take its name from the river Ise + Old English *slǣp ‘slippery place’ meaning ‘slippery bank of the river Ise’.

However, this is problematic as Islip is not on a bank of the river Ise though it is close to the river Nene and Harper's Brook.

These nearby waterways may have been known as Ise at some point in the past.
