In Staffs and Worcs, perhaps a variant of Unett in which Middle English Ywenet has been stressed on the initial vowel and reduced to Inet. Ywenet and Inet both occur early as surnames in Staffs and also in Herefs from where Inet may have migrated to nearby Rock in Worcs.

Alternatively, the name may belong with (2). From a Middle English survival of Old English *Hygenōð formed with Old English hyge- ‘mind’ + nōð- ‘daring bold’ or of Old English Hēahnōð formed from Old English hēah- ‘high’ + nōð-.
