From either of two places in Scotland called Heavyside in Biggar (Lanarks) or between Hownam and Morebattle (Roxburghs). The former is recorded as Hevilyside 1480 and Hyvieside 1662 both in Great Seal of Scotland.

The second element is Scots side ‘slope hill’ and the first is obscure.
