English: possibly a habitational name from Ashday in Southowram (Yorkshire). The placename may derive from Old English ēast ‘eastern east’ + (ge)hæg ‘enclosure’ or hēah ‘high place’.

Scottish: nickname for a brisk or impetuous person, or possibly for a messenger, from Older Scots hastie, Middle English hasty, hastif ‘speedy quick’, also ‘impetuous hot-tempered’ (Old French hastif).
