of uncertain origin. Medieval bearers of the surname occur in Lincs and Westm but no places with this name can be identified in those counties or elsewhere.

possibly an altered form of Glentham (from Glentham Lincs) which, like Glenton, appears in late 14th-century Yorks but which otherwise seems not to have survived into the modern era.

However apart from the superficial linguistic similarity there is no evidence that Glentham and Glenton are related.
