Furlonger Family History
Furlonger Surname Meaning
From Middle English furlonger furlanger ‘dweller by the furlong’ (see Furlong). It was used as an alternative to the synonymous Middle English atte Furlong and belongs to a type of name particularly common in Surrey and Sussex in which -er was added to a topographical term.
For a competitive runner from a derivative of Middle English furlang furlong ‘foot race’ + -er. This may explain the example below but there is no evidence for its survival as a modern surname.
