Finbow Family History
Finbow Surname Meaning
Principally from Great and Little Finborough (Suffolk), which is recorded as Fineberga in 1086 and Fyneberwe in 1327. The place-name probably derives from Old English fīna ‘woodpecker’ + beorg ‘hill mound’. The first element might alternatively be an Old English personal name *Fīna derived from the bird-name.
Perhaps occasionally from Finbury in Stoneleigh (Warwicks), which is recorded as Fineberge in 1221 and Fyneburg Finbarewe in 126. The place-name probably has the same etymology as Finborough (Suffolk) in (1).
