Catney Family History
Catney Surname Meaning
Unexplained. Evidently from a lost place-name, most probably in ER Yorks and perhaps in the region of the near neighbours Catwick and Catfoss.
The traditional local name of the village of Catherine-de-Barnes in Warwicks is Catney, but this is unlikely to be the source of the surname.
Perhaps an altered form of Courtney.
