From Old French bulzun, bouzon, bozon, buzun, boujon, and bougon, the term refers to an ‘arrow crossbow bolt (with a large head)’ used as a heraldic device. This term possibly also metaphorically describes a person who bore some physical resemblance to a bolt.

Compare with Bolt. Of the two pronunciations of the name, Boujon persisted in East Anglia.

Meanwhile, B(o)uzon may have survived as Busson in Southwest England.
