A Gift Membership is a membership paid for by one person (the “Purchaser”) to be used by someone else (the “Recipient”). Gift Memberships, unlike other Memberships, are non-renewing and allow access to the relevant Services by the Recipient only from the Gift Start Date (defined below) for the duration of the membership purchased (the “Gift Term)”. Any purchase or use of Gift Memberships is subject to these Special Terms, which are in addition to and do not replace the general Ancestry Terms and Conditions.
Purchasing a Gift Membership:
Currently, Gift Memberships may only be purchased at Ancestry.com, Ancestry.co.uk, Ancestry.ca, Ancestry.com.au, and Newspapers.com. Specific terms and conditions set forth in the purchase process may apply. At the time of purchase, the Purchaser will choose the date on which the Gift Membership will begin (the “Gift Start Date”), which must be within 90 days of the purchase date. Ancestry will generate a unique access code that will allow the Recipient to access the Gift Membership, and Ancestry will email that access code to the Recipient on the Gift Start Date. Ancestry will also send a copy of this email to the Purchaser.
Ancestry is not responsible and assumes no liability for non-delivery of an email because of an invalid address, spam filters or any other reason. The Purchaser is solely responsible for announcing the Gift Membership to the Recipient prior to the Gift Start Date if the Purchaser wishes to have the gift announced in some way other than the email from Ancestry on the Gift Start Date.
Accessing a Gift Membership:
On the Gift Start Date, Ancestry will send an email containing an access code to the Recipient at the email address provided by the Purchaser at the time of purchase. The Recipient may use the access code to access the Gift Membership at any time during the Gift Term. The Gift Membership will begin on the Gift Start Date and end at the end of the Gift Term, regardless of whether the Recipient accesses the Membership on the Gift Start Date, a later date or never. Upon first access, the Recipient will be required to create an account and agree to the Ancestry Terms and Conditions and Privacy Statement. The Recipient can only start a gift membership on the local Ancestry website (Ancestry.com, Ancestry.co.uk, Ancestry.ca, Ancestry.com.au, or Newspapers.com) on which the purchaser purchased the gift membership.
Refunds and Cancellations:
Refunds on Gift Memberships are subject to the Renewal and Cancellation Terms and are available only to the Purchaser, not the Recipient. A Gift Membership may be cancelled by the Recipient at any time but no refunds will be issued.
General:
Ancestry is not responsible and assumes no liability for non-delivery of an email because of an invalid address, spam filters or any other reason. Ancestry is not responsible for loss or misuse of Gift Membership access codes. Please do not purchase Gift Memberships for Recipients who are already Members of Ancestry or Newspapers.com as we cannot combine Gift Memberships with other Memberships or services — nor can we use Gift Memberships to extend or upgrade other Memberships or services. Gift Memberships have no cash value or other value and can only be used to access the relevant Services during the Gift Term.
