Hi Lynn,
My grandmother's sister was Cora Vander Tulip who married a Gerrit Vandersluys in South Holland. I would guess that her name in Dutch was translated to Cora in English. Cora Vander Tulip came from Stad aan't Haringvliet, Overflakkee, South Holland so I would guess that Gerrit was from that area too. They lived on Madison Avenue, Paterson, Passaic County, New Jersey and had a daughter Mary (1889) that worked for the Manhattan Shirt Company in Paterson. They also had a son Leonard and a son Edward (1898). Ed married a Florence Murtaugh and had Cora (1923) Edward and Florence. Hope I have been of help. Let me know what info you have on the Vandersluys family in Passaic County.
Thanks, Shirley

I have a little info on the Vandersluys, and would like to learn what you have. My grandfather was William Vandersluys, born in Holland in 1895. His parents were Peter Vandersluys, and Nellie Van Dam. Peter, Nellie, and their three oldest children came to N.Y. and settled there. William lived in Gloversville, N.Y. and is buried there. His first wife was Esther Dingman. Peter and Nellie had several children. The names I know are Aaron, Bella, Johanna, and William. Hope this links up to something you have.

I do -- in fact I gave all the information to Bob Hazekamp at the PCHS. I have a great deal of info which I would be glad to send you. I can also give you the email of Wim VanDerSluijs in Holland who started me on all this investigation. What Wim and I are looking for is information on Peter VanDerSluys and Gabriel who both were in this country and seemed to be never in touch with my family. Abraham VDS build the bakery on N. Main Street, his son, William, kept it going until 1942, My dad William left Paterson after graduating from Stevens and lived in the Detroit and Chicago areas. My brother, William Alan, is a mechanical Engineer PhD who worked with atomic reactors for most of his career.

janet.brown@uwc.edu Please email me there and I will send you what I have.
