Surnames: Boget,
Hi, I am looking for information about Bogets in California. My husband's father was Delbert and his father was Ralph. I noticed Ralph's Social Security card was issued in Illsnoise. He was jewler and died in Glendale California in Nov of 1982. His wife was Sara Edith Rennar or Edith Rennar. They were devorced. Also, there is this family rumor that the Bogets were constantly changing their name. That it was originaly Vanderbogard (Sp?) and that they are related to Humphrey Bogart. Any information what so ever will be valued. Thanks.

Interesting you said they changed names a lot.
My maiden name was BOWGETT, BOUGATE in early 1800s. My direct ancestors are from Bucks, UK. Yours may be, too, or we both be French, from the more distant past.
Do email me. if you'd like to know more:

Which brother are you married to, and where do you live?
Delbert's sister Rita is one of my best friends, and would like to make contact.

Hi Erin,
It is entirely possible that you are related to the family of Joseph Henry Boget, b. 1812 Washington Co. NY, m.c 1833 Nancy Ann Eldridge b. c 1812, d 1863. Nancy didn't like the name VandeBogart and changed it to Boget (according to a written note from her granddaughter in my posession). I have never found the name anywhere else unless it is a direct descendant or a derivitive of another name so I am assuming that most Bogets are related.
According to the family records I have, Joseph and Nancy had seven children. Elizabeth Boget, Ellis James Boget b. 1834, m Amelia M. Blaine;Albert Eldridge Boget b 1836,mHannah Elizabeth Nicholas b 1837;Charles Calvin Boget (fought in the Civil War) b1838 m#1 Martha M./Jane Reynolds b 1841, m#2 Sarah 'Sadie' Jane McLauchlin b.1856, m#3 Sarah Larsen Lawrence b 1861;Jane Boget b 1841;Nancy A. Boget b 1848 and (my line) David Henry Boget b 1843 d 1911 Seattle, King, Washington m.1866 Johnson Co. Iowa Sophia Fredericka Hanna Dow b. 1846 Germany.
All Boget children born in Washington Co. New York.
I am in the process of proving the possibility that the Boget/vandeBogart line goes back to the earliest Dutch settlers in New Amsterdam. The biggest brick wall I've got is proving the parentage of Joseph Henry Boget/vandeBogart and his supposed brother Armus/Harmus/Ormus vanBogart who m Caroline Graham (again according to family papers)
The family of Joseph Henry Boget's wife Nancy Ann Eldridge goes back to the earliest English settlers picking up the lines of Graham, Austin, Casey, Ellis, Aylesworth etc. and ties directly into the very famous line of Anne Marbury Hutchinson, famous dissenter in Colonial times, (Google her) and back into the highest ranks of English nobility. Quite a line!!
I wish it was mine, but it's the line of my ex. (I've got my own Royal lines)
I have extensive additional information, family pictures etc.
I would be interested in contacting other 'cousins'

I am also researching the Bowgett line. My Grandma, who Granddad was George Bowgett, was always insisting the Bowgetts were french but I have not been able to prove.

I look forward to your reply.

My fiance is directly related to Ormus Van Bogart. What information do you have that suggests that he is your Joseph's brother?

I realize this is an old post, but I thought I'd share, just in case you're still checking.

Delbert's father was Ralph Lorain Boget. Ralph had a brother, Merle and a sister, Edith Mae (my grandmother)

It sounds like Delbert was probably named after his Grandfather, Adelbert Ervin Bogart.

I've gone pretty far with the Bogart side of my family. Feel free to check it out. I'm stuck on my great grandmother's side now. Can't seem to even find a maiden name for her.
