Hi. Thomas & Jane were my 7th g-grandparents. Thomas was the son of Rowland Ellis of Bryn Mawr, Merionethsire. Rowland was back & forth a few times, but there are records of land purchases from 1681, in the area of what is now Berks/Chester Co. PA. You may want to try the book "Merion in the Welsh Tract" by Thomas Allen Glenn. Thomas & Jane were married at the Gwynedd Friends Meeting in Montgomery, PA 1712. Thomas is buried in the Exeter Friends burying grounds. Jane died at the Thomas Lee house, in Oley, Berks Co. PA

Hi. It sounds like we have most of the same information. I have some dates but not many. Where does your line go from Thomas and Jane? My line goes through their daughter Eleanor, who married Thomas Lee of Exeter, PA, and down through the Lees to the Roberts and then McCartys.

I'm guessing the brick layers are a fairly recent addition, in the big picture. It may have come about when that part of the family left PA, as I believe the PA families farmed or went into business or politics or the like. Rowland Ellis has been listed in various documents as "gentleman" or "yeoman" in English documents, meaning he wouldn't have a skilled trade like that, and would most likely not encourage his sons to start one. Remember how polarized the classes were at that time. I'm guessing it would be at least a couple generations down the road before the slass lines would be blurred enough for someone to take up a trade. If you can find any of those ancestors on tax or census records, you may be able to find where the brick layers started.

thomas and jane are my 6th ggparents, i have contacted a museum in pennsylvania for help in finding documentation to prove that he was indeed rowland's son. this seems to be a subject on which geneologists are split. if you have or know of any concrete proof of our lineage (records, letters, family bibles, etc) please contact me.

John Wesley and Sarah Clapp Ellis are my 3x great-grandparents, through son Thomas Evans (m. Lydia McBride) and his daughter, Estella May (2nd marriage to Thomas Leaf). Has anyone proven whether this line actually goes back to Rowland Ellis? I have a lot of info. on Thomas, Estella and her husbands/children which I will share. I haven't researched much beyond Thomas at this point.

I have a copy of a document that is claimed to be a genealogy of Rowland Ellis (Bryn Mawr, Merio9neth, Wales). It shows that Rowland did have a son Thomas, born May 27, 1683, Merioneth, Merionethshire, Wales; d. Jun 11, 1760, Gwynedd, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. He married Jane Hughes Oct 31, 1712 in Haverford MM (or Gwynedd MM) Montgomery County, PA, daughter of John Hugh and Martha Caimot.

Children of Thomas Ellis and Jane Hughes are:
i. Eleanor Ellis, b. Jun 23, 1712, of Exeter, Berks County, Pennsylvania; d. Jan 2, 1801, Exeter, Berks County, Pennsylvania; m. Thomas Lee, Feb 27, 1735/36, (or Oct 1736) Southland MM, Pennsylvania.

ii. Jonathan Ellis, b. Jun 18, 1713, Oley, Berks County, Pennsylvania; d. 1750.Notes for Jonathan Ellis: "John" one source says died abt 1713

iii. Morris Ellis, b. Sep 12, 1714, Olney, Berks County, Pennsylvania; d. Bet. 1714 - 1715, Olney, Berks County, Pennsylvania.

iv. Morris Ellis, b. Dec 8, 1715, Olney, Berks County, Pennsylvania; d. Fairfax, Virginia; m. Sarah Coleston, Feb 26, 1736/37, Olney Valley, Berks County, Pennsylvania.
