Looking for any info on my gret grandmother Lena (Dwan) Green. Her father was James Dwan who married a Susan McCloskey either in PEI or Ireland. They had about six children: Lena, Ann, Patrick, John, Nate and I'm not sure of the sixth child. They raised their family in Mattapan and Roxbury after leaving Canada. Any info would be great!

I am from the Quincy (Boston) area and my father is John A. Dwan originally from PEI where our ancestors came from Kilkenney county Ireland. My father is the son of Clifford Dwan who fathered 11 children. I don't know if this is any help to you, but I hope it is. Please email me and let me know. I am always interested in meeting more people in our family. As you know, our name is fairly rare so I feel that we may be related somehow. Take care and happy holidays.
Sean

Hi Sean!! I Just received you're e-mail! I posted that message so long ago I forgot about it!! Most of my family live in Randolph and Quincy now, maybe your dad's brothers, sisters, or cousins may recognize the Dwan names in my family and see if there is a connection? My great grandmother was Lena Dwan and she married George Green. Also, Lena Dwan was cousins with the first cardinal of the united states- John McCloskey, something my mother always brags about!! Did you're family have any relation to him also?? Talk to you soon!!! Thanks for the info!!

I just got your email and I havent' had a chance to ask my Dad about the possible relationship. I know there is a Richard Dwan in Quincy, and there was some others I think that lived in West Roxbury. I also know of 3 others that are all on Boston P. D. I have spoken to two of them in the past when I was an officer in the inner city. With such a rare name, there has to be a connection somewhere. Well take care,
Sean

Hi Sean...Just saw your posting about Dwan family from Boston area. My husband's brother is the Richard Dwan in Quincy. I have quite a bit of info on various branches of the Dwan family that I would be happy to share. Several years ago a lovely woman in Florida sent out "Dwanletter" which she compiled several times a year. She did a tremendous amount of research and I have saved all the family info she sent. Let me know what info you are looking for. Pat

Yes Pat, I would as much as you have to offer. I met your husband one time several years ago at Lechmere's. I heard the clerk call him by his name, it sort of suprised me. I didn't get a chance to speak to him other than to say hello. From what I have found out, my "branch" of the Dwan family came from Kilkenny County Ireland from a rather large family then two of the brothers moved to P.E.I leading to my grandfather Clifford being born who had 11 children (one of them John, my father the baby of the 11) who due to unexpected circumstances was moved to Quincy, Mass where he grew up. Of course that lead to me and that's where this particular branch of the Dwan name has ended with the exception of my beautiful daughter Brianna Taylor Dwan. I can feel the pressure to lead on the family tradition to have a boy so this branch of the Dwan family can live on. Any takers ;)~

Hi Pat!! I have also been e-mailing Dwan family info with Sean and just saw your message!!! My family has several "Dwanletters" from that newspaper in Florida and my beloved aunt Lillian who's mother was Lena (Dwan) Green recieved all issues until she passed away in 1999. I still live in her home and have saved many of her articles. Any info you may have on the Dwan family would be great if you could pass it on!!! My grandmother, Lena Dwan's daughter, is 93 and home now with hospice care, she only has a few weeks left and she talks about her mother and the Dwan family all the time. I am trying to get more info from her but she is not doing well. I would love any info you may have. Thanks!! Leanne

Thanks Sean! My grandmother who is Lena (Dwan) Green's daughter has only a few weeks left and I am trying to get info from her and her mother's family, siblings, cousins, etc. I am almost positive they were from West Roxbury and Mattapan, then we all moved to Randolph in the 1970's. Many of our extended family are still in Boston, Quincy, Randolph. However I do not know any Dwan's!!!

Hi Sean, I wanted to know if you are related to Marie (Dwan) Maloney who will be 100 years old next week? She is my grandmothers first cousin and her daughter Babara McGovern who lives in Quincy is having a big birthday party for her next week at the Nursing home in Quincy. Marie's father's name was Richard Dwan. My great grandmother Lena Dwan had many brothers ; John, Patrick, Nate, Ann, Donald? And more I have to check, maybe a Richard too. My great grandmother's Dad was James Dwan who married Susan McCloskey.

Hi Leanne.....I've been trying to get some photos out of a CD into this message, but so far no success. Also, I tried to scan a genealogy page that has your relative (Lena) listed, but it won't go from the scanning process to this format. So, considering the time constraints, would you like me to snail mail what might be of immediate importance to you? Let me know what works for you. Wish I had more expertise at some of this stuff.
