My grandmother was Joyce Dwan from Bermondsey, London. Her parents were Lily Sarah and George Charles.

My grandmother was one of ten children. She was married to Percy Victor Frank Barrington (A.K.A. "Charlie") in 1951.

If these names ring any bells, please e-mail me. I really want to know what Lily's maiden name was, so I can track down her marriage certificate.

Thanks in advance.

I'm still reseaching the family history, if anyone's read this thread and been put off by the date of my original post. Have come a long way with the Dwans and the tree is really taking shape. Would love to share it, if anyone's interested.

Looking forward to being bombarded with messages,
Vicky

Some names that might be familiar to you if you've got this far...

My grandmother was Joyce Margaret Dwan from Bermondsey. Her parents were Sarah "Lily" Turner and George Charles Dwan. She was married to Percy Victor Frank Barrington (known as "Charlie" during WWII).

My grandmother was one of a possible 12 children: George James Dwan, Leonard Stanley Dwan, Lilian May L. Dwan, Albert Thomas Dwan, Arthur William Dwan, Ellen Alice Dwan, Christopher Dwan, Ronald Dwan and Mary Dwan. There were possibly two others: Tommy and Olive.

My g-grandfather - George Charles Dwan - was one of 11 children: Arthur William Dwan, Elizabeth Jane "Lily" Dwan, William Dwan, Emma Alice Dwan, Thomas Frederick Dwan, Albert Edward Dwan, Ethel Annie Dwan, Charles Frederick Dwan, Christopher John Dwan and Ernest Sydney Dwan.

If any of these names ring any bells with you, please get in touch. I'd love to hear from you and share our family tree.

Thanks and best wishes,
Vicky

Hi Vicky,

My name is Sonja Sherrard Walker and my great-aunt Bette Marie Sherrard was married to a Christopher Dwan. The California Death Record says that he was born December 13, 1923 "outside of the US". He and Bette had three children that I know of and he died in California in 1980. Do you think he is related to your Dwans?

Sincerely,
Sonja

Hi Sonja,

I'm afraid I don't think there is a connection. All my lot are centred in London and the only Chrstophers on my tree were born in 1908 and 1929. We do have a link to Canada, but not the US. Sorry!

The very best of luck with your research and, if I discover anything that could be of use to you, I'll post it here.

Best wishes,
Vicky

James/Vicky,

I have been researching my family history for a while now but I have only just begun to put together my family tree. The majority of my family history is from the Bermondsey/ Rotherhithe/ St Olaves area. I have a Thomas Dwan (born 19.03.1883) from Bermondsey. He is the first Dwan in our family.

Thomas Dwan married my Grandmother; Sarah Elizabeth Lewis (born 15.05.1887) on Christmas Day 1919. They were the parents of Thomas George Dwan (born 20.07.1920) who died in October 2003.

Sarah was one of eight children. Thomas Dwan was her second husband; her single name was Nash.

Thomas Dwan was a widower when he and Sarah married. I have been unable to trace his first wife. Should the above fit into either of your family trees I would appreciate any information/leads you could give me.

Many thanks and kind regards,

Brian Lewis
