Sophie J. Laib, 92, Armstrong Creek, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 27, 2007, at Hoffman's Paradise, Armstrong Creek. Sophie was born Jan. 14, 1915, in Armstrong Creek, the daughter of the late Andrew and Antoinette (Kurek) Janczy. On Feb. 16, 1960, in Chicago, Sophie married William O. Laib. He preceded her in death on Feb. 9, 1994. Sophie owned and operated the Rainbow Supper Club in Cavour for several years. After selling the restaurant she moved Lake Lucerne. She later moved to Mesa, Ariz., where she spent 30 years at Leisure World Retirement Community. She returned to Armstrong Creek a couple years ago. Sophie enjoyed flower gardening and cooking and was an avid golfer while living in Arizona.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, William she is also preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Antoinette; three sisters, Frances, Gertrude and Rose; and three brothers, Bruno, Stanley and Walter.
Father David Schmidt will officiate a Memorial Mass on Saturday, June 2, 2007 at 10 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church, Armstrong Creek. Inurnment will be at Pine Hill Cemetery, Armstrong Creek.
