So I'm trying to find information about my ancestor William Duda. From my family records as recorded by my uncle, he immigrated to the US from Zakarovce in what was Austria between 1899 and 1902. He initially landed in Pennsylvania, and then settled in Newtown, CT. I have all pertinent census information from 1910 on, but cannot find any records of him before that point.
According to my uncle, his parents were Michael (Mihaly?) Duda, and Anna Kovac(s/h, or some variation).
He also mentioned several siblings, of which I have no verified records so far.
Susan, who married John Kohut
Mary, who was murdered sometime before the mid 1930s by a man named Robert
And a half, or step-sister also named Mary (who may have married Anton Thura) from his father's second marriage, to a woman thus far unnamed.
My grandmother refers to William as Valentine, and claims it was his given name. His birthdate is 14 Feb, between 1882 and 1885.
Census records vary as to his actual birth year and immigration year.
Also included in the information given to me are the locations of Vranov nad Toplou, and "Zianoza", which so far hasn't been linked to an actual town.
Any help would be appreciated, this is mostly the only area I've gotten stuck on.
